With the help of PiCkLe, a friend of mine online and in real life, "Aganazzar's Place" makes its debut with the original address as http://oscar.teclink.net/~aganazza. The page started out as a joke list, "The Top 10 Reasons a Sick Person Would Visit Mississippi", and some other assorted Mississippi humor. |
The "1995 Demographic Facts" of Mississippi and "Requirements for Residence in Mississippi" is added to the page. A few days later I would start getting flame and hate email in regards to the stinging material displayed on my page. |
"The 1995 House of Representatives", "Calling all Rednecks", "Mississippi Poem", and "Mississippi Jokes" are all added to the page. Teclink refuses to list my page on their list of homepages a few days later. I also receive a letter from a local college asking me to please remove my page, as it is "an eyesore and a blatant slap in the face to all the people who have tried to polish and improve the image of the Great State of Mississippi." |
"Aganazzar's Place receives its 1,000th hit. |
I totally redesign the layout for "Aganazzar's Place", incorporating tables into the layout, and "The Lonliest Guy" and "Talking to the Locals" is added to the page. |
It is made public that Teclink, the company that is hosting "Aganazzar's Place" is going bankrupt, and that they are planning on filling for bankruptcy. |
Teclink has gone bankrupt, and they are in the process of being bought out by World Access Solutions. In light of this, "Aganazzar's Place" is relocated to TCUSA, and the new address for the site becomes http://tcusa.net/aganazza/. TCUSA is much faster then Teclink, and they also give me 25 MB of space for my site. |
"Aganazzar's Place" undegoes another facelift, and the site is totally redesigned again. New graphics are made and incorporated into the site layout. |
A good friend of mine in real life, Alex, adds a MIDI section to his page. I had long toyed with the idea of adding a MIDI section to my page, and now that he has that idea is tossed away. However, one thing Alex is not offering on his page is MIDI files from Video Games... |
"The Video Game MIDI Archive" makes is debut on "Aganazzar's Place". Initially, the archive contained 155 MIDIs from various video games from numerous different platforms. The page is advertised in various MIDI channels on DALnet for the next few weeks. In under a week, the page receives over 100 hits. |
The Video Game MIDI Archive is updated weekly, with each weekly update adding 25 MIDI files to the page. I completely erase the old HTML files for "Aganazzar's Place" and redesign the page from scratch. The newly designed pages resemble the way the pages do now. The main page's counter reads over 4000 hits, and the MIDI page is quickly catching up in traffic. |
The short story, "The Day Pearl Stood Still", also know as "The Salad Story" is added to the short story section. This story depicts the facts surrounding that fateful day in Pearl, Mississippi, on June 28th, 1997. In the following weeks, I get loads of email from people saying how much they loved the story. |
The one year anniversary for "Aganazzar's Place" arrives, and the page is prospering quite nicely. The page has received nearly 5000 hits, and the MIDI archive has recived almost 3000 hits. Some new graphics are made for the page, and the pages receive a minor face lift. I begin toying with the idea of adding a Video Game MP3 Archive. |
"The Video Game MP3 Archive" makes its debut on "Aganazzar's Place." Initally, the page included 15 MP3s, most of them from Castlevania III. The pages now consume 23.9 MB of space, leaving me 1.1 MB of space for future updates. |
It is rumored that TCUSA might be shutting down. Nothing is made offical, however. |
With no warning whatsoever, TCUSA goes offline. They completely shut down their services and send out an email informing their customers that they are going out of business. "Aganazzar's Place" is left without a hosting site, and the search begins for a new hosting location. Unfortunatly, the page now requires over 25 MB of space, which is more then most hosting places allow. |
After the domain registry cleared InterNIC, "Aganazzar's Place" is relocated to its new home, aganazzar.com. The domain is being hosted on a fractional T-3 connection in Maryland, and the site has a storage allowance of 100 MB and a bandwidth allowance of 100 MB / day. With the extra space and bandwidth allowance, the idea of adding many more MP3 files to the archive is tossed around ... |
A banner add is placed on the main page of aganazzar.com, in hopes of defraying some of the costs associated with registering the domain and hosting. |
The short story, "The Dog Who Could Not Wait" is added to the short story section of the page. |
"Aganazzar's Place" is given a facelift. Loads of new graphics were added, all of which were designed by me, and a great deal of small cosmetic surgery is done to most of the HTML coding for the site. In the following weeks, I get a great deal of positive feedback on the new graphical layout. |
"Aganazzar's Place" has been online for 2 years. |
The first signs of danger for aganazzar.com is revealed when I get an email from the hosting provider. They tell me that my site is generating what they call "excessive bandwidth", and they demand that I upgrade my domain to the next teir of bandwidth, which costs me an additional 500$ a year. Aganazzar.com now uses over 300 MB of hard drive space, and the site is generating in excess of 1 gig of transfers per day. |
After exploring ways to reduce the bandwidth the site is generating, I am forced to result to password protecting the MP3 files. Through my own investigations over the web, and the input of some of my visitors, it is brough to my attention that numerous other sites on the internet are directly linking to the MP3 files I am offering. By password protecting the pages, and changing the password every other day, I hope that I can reduce the number of other pages that are directly linking to my files. The password protection works, but not by much. |
Despite the growing bandwidth problems associated with aganazzar.com, I decide to press on by adding a new music site, "The Video Game SPC Archive." I begin collecting SPC files and begin assembeling an archive devoted to these small, comapct music files. |
The Video Game SPC Archive makes its debut with 15 files. |
I update and improve upon the Comments section of my website, and add numerous emails and comments that have been sent to me over the past few years. |
Windows OSR-2 on my computer crashes, resulting in damage to one of my hardrives. I have to do a major overhaul of my computer, which results in me not updating the site for a few weeks. |
The provider which has been hosting aganazzar.com goes through some major changes. The founder of the company leaves, and decides to sell Dragonfire to Dreamhaven. They relocate their facilities to Utah. I had a good rapport with Andy, the founder of Dragonfire, and I am sorry to say that this relationship does not carry over to the new admins of the hosting company. The move to the new facility results in some excessive downtime for aganazzar.com. |
"Aganazzar's Place" celebrates its 3 year birthday. |
The provider which is hosting aganazzar.com decides to upgrade their operating system, and disaster results. They wind up fouling up their servers, and the resulting problems last for weeks. Aganazzar.com is down quite a bit over the next few weeks, as the admins try to figure out what went wrong. I am starting to think that the admins of the new provider are not very competent, and I send them a scathing letter, expressing my concern over their inability to fix their problems. The admin sends me back a nasty letter, which is very unprofessional. I am very dissatisfied with their preformance, but there is little I can do about it. As a side effect of their attempts to upgrade their operating system, the password protection files are destroyed, resulting in a total lockout of my MP3 files. No one can access them due to the corrupted password utility, and the admins drag their asses in getting the problems corrected. Additionally, the counters on all my pages are erased. |
The provider which is hosting aganazzar.com decides to relocate to another location, again, and the resulting move leads to more downtime for aganazzar.com. |
After being broken for two entire months, the admins finally fix the password protection utility. It takes them two entire months to fix one small problem. Again, I send them an email expressing my concern over their shoddy service. The admin again responds to my email with a very unprofessional email. I am really upset with their preformance. |
The old email lists I had for people who wanted to receive emails when I updated the site are deleted by accident. I add a new and improved email list, courtesy of LinkBot. |
According to the Link Exchange counter, aganazzar.com records its 100,000 hit on the main page. This is quite an achievement. When I first placed "Aganazzar's Place" online in July 1996, I never imagined that it would receive 100,000 hits. |
The admins of the hosting provider for aganazzar.com lose the check I sent them for renewal. In addition, after promising to observe the same rates that I paid Dragonfire for their services, the admins decide to stop observing the old prices. The next time I renew, which will be in November 2000, I will have to pay their prices for hosting. This means that when I renew, I will have to pay over 1500$ for one year to keep aganazzar.com online. |
For the third time in the past year, a major problem with the hosters of aganazzar.com brings the site down again. They relocate their facilites yet again, and the resulting downtime is longer then they anticipated. It is quite clear to me now that the Dreamhaven Admins should not be running a commerical hosting site. |
Aganazzar.com now consumes over 500 MB of disc space, and the bandwidth has dropped off considerably due to all the downtime and problems the admins of the hosting company have had. Additionally, my lack of updating the music sections over the past year has also contributed to the lower traffic the site is generating. Bandwidth is down to about 1 gig per day, which is alot less then it was in the past. At its peak, aganazzar.com was generating in excess of 3 gigs of traffic per day. The higest one day total was 5.7 gigs. |
I graduated from Millsaps College on May 13th, 2000, and I have moved out to Georgia. I am getting adjusted to life in Georgia. However, fear not ... For all you people who love my bitter criticisms of Missisisppi, I plan to continue to add new content to the Missisisppi Sections of my webpage. |
"Aganazzar's Place" has been online for 4 years. |
I do some minor HTML changes to every single page on aganazzar.com, including adding some new buttons to the main page. I also add new counters to the pages, and update some sections of the page that have not been updated in over 3 years. In the coming weeks, I plan to add some new pages, including some new Missisisppi material. I am also planning on adding some new graphics, and phasing out some of the older ones. I add the "History of Aganazzar.com" to the site. I have kept a history of the major things that have affected the outcome of "Aganazzar's Place" over the years, and I have decided to make this public for all who are interested to read. |
I add two new articles to the "Critique of Mississippi" section - "Redneck Valentine Poem" and "Mississippi Census 2000". |
I add a new section to the "Short Stories" section - "A Pissing Good Time". I also add a small introduction, which has a brief synopsis of each of the stories in that section. |
After over 3 years being hosted by Dragonfire / Dreamhaven, my business relationship with them comes to an abrupt and rather sudden end. On December 8th, my domain and mail server go offline. Having gotten used to their subpar service ever since Dreamhaven had bought out Dragonfire, I thought nothing of it. My domain and mail server were still down over 5 days later on December 12th. Four consecutive days of downtime is excessive even for Dreamhaven's crappy service, so I decide to go their "Service Report" page to see what the problem is. When I load up their main webpage, there is a message stating that as of December 8th, 2000, Dreamhaven (aka Dragonfire) is going offline and shutting down. I received no email, no written notice, no contact whatsoever in advance stating that they were shutting down. The claimed that they emailed everyone a few days in advance. When I told them I received no such email, they claimed that my email address must have been "outdated", which was simply not the truth. In any event, as a result of this rather unexpected occurance, aganazzar.com goes offline for almost six days. |
I locate a new host for aganazzar.com, and begin transferring my files as soon as my domain comes back online. The new host is considerably faster than Dreamhaven ever hoped to be. It takes a few days to get the more than 500 MB worth of files transferred to the new host. In addition, I do not have the same high amount of bandwidth I had when Dragonfire hosted my site. As a result, I am not sure how long I am going to be able to keep the MP3 section online. If the bandwidth blooms back up to the levels it was at a few years ago, I will have to disable the MP3 section. |
The bandwidth my site uses is growing at a rate that I am not going to be able to sustain. On some days, the site is generating over 5 gigs of downloads per day, and I have already received numerous emails from the current host stating that if the bandwidth loads are maintained, I will have to upgrade to the next tier of hosting (which would cost me in excess of 1500$ per year. |
Aganazzar.com has been online for 5 years. |
My host terminates my service, citing excessive bandwidth. This is the fifth hosting service that Aganazzar.com has been through. |
After almost three years offline, Aganazzar.com makes a return to the internet. Unfortunatly, how long I remain online before getting shut down again is not known. In this age of RIAA lawsuits, most hosting providers have an utter phobia of MP3s, and finding a host that would even consider hosting my pages was difficult. I have a hosting plan that will allow me to once again expand the MIDI and MP3 sections, and I plan to resume updating the pages for as long as they are online. In addition to coming back online, Aganazzar.com has gone through a few facelifts and some changes. I have touched up alot of the HTML, and I have removed the Mississippi sections of my pages (since I have not lived in Mississippi for 4 years now) so I can focus more on games and game music. |
Today is the 8th anniversary of "Aganazzar.com" (not counting the two years I was offline in 2002 - 2003). |
This page looks best in Internet Explorer 6.0
